My job has always been the same at its core. I take fast moving technology and make it feel simple, useful and human. I started out as a tech journalist, then spent seven years presenting The Gadget Show on Channel 5. These days you’ll find me live on BBC Morning Live and The Jeremy Vine Show.

Alongside the telly I’ve spoken at more than 200 conferences across the UK and Europe, for clients including Google, IBM, Sony and BAFTA. Two hundred audiences teach you a lot about what people actually want from a talk on technology. Clear explanations. Real examples. Nobody made to feel stupid for not knowing something.

And after a decade of translating tech for a living, I’ve noticed something about AI in particular. Everyone assumes everyone else is miles ahead. They aren’t. Most teams have the tools, a few keen dabblers and no system. Most professionals are using a fraction of what these tools can do, usually as a slightly faster search engine, because nobody ever showed them properly.
